Profile
English Heritage is the Government's official advisor on the historic environment. As well as maintaining its own portfolio of historic properties (e.g. Stonehenge and Dover Castle) it also has major responsibilities in conservation and heritage protection (listing and scheduling). Alongside this it both carries out and facilitates numerous heritage-related research projects which contribute to knowledge and understanding of the historic environment as well as setting standards in their related fields.
These include survey where the York-based photogrammetry unit (part of the former Metric Survey Team) have been very active in setting standards for the metric survey of cultural heritage. These now include 3D Laser Scanning facilitated through the Heritage3D project.
