UTEC NCS Survey StarNet is a division of UTEC, specialising in 3D asset management software solutions, land surveying, laser scanning, photogrammetry and telecoms services

StarNet are currently looking to hire a Business Development Manager to join the team on a full time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for organically growing the StarNet business in existing service lines, specifically Surveying (Topographic, Utilities, Laser Scanning etc) within the UK. The anticipated growth areas are Rail, Utilities and major infrastructure projects.

StarNet carry out the majority of their survey works in Scotland, the opportunity to grow across the rest of the UK is the main focus initially. With that, we are open to candidates based anywhere in the UK, but are particularly interested in candidates in the South East.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting development of the annual sales budget and ongoing sales forecast within the iSite, Laser Scanning, Surveying and Dimensional Control service lines
  • Develop market & specific segment sales strategies as well as project “win” strategies
  • Responsible for preparation and implementation of bids through liaison with dedicated tender/bid teams and commercial department
  • Prepare action plans for effective pursuit of sales leads and prospects
  • Leads and assists in direct sales presentation of the full range of iSite, Laser Scanning, Surveying and Dimensional Control services to existing and prospective clients
  • Supports sales initiative for new market opportunities
  • Prepares accurate and timely sales input to the CRM System
  • Upon project award, works with key functional departments to ensure a smooth transition from commercial to technical/operations departments
  • Deputises for the Proposals Manager in their absence
  • Advises local and regional management on market intelligence
  • Develops existing business and identifies new market opportunities, leading or assisting the preparation of business plans, service lines development, case studies and the like
  • Initiates and coordinates development of action plans to penetrate new market sectors
  • Informs and liaises with corporate sales and business development functions to ensure coherent BD strategy
  • Informs and liaises with Regional BD Managers to ensure broad understanding across regions of ongoing client communications and asset movements and to leverage international relationships to deliver regional strategy
  • Assists in the development and implementation of marketing plans as needed
  • Supports the company’s marketing efforts through attendance at company and industry events
  • Controls marketing and promotional expenses in line with budget guidelines
  • Maintains database of competition and provides regular updates on specific threats or opportunities in the monthly management report

Required

  • Extensive experience of business development in Laser Scanning, Topographical and Utilities Surveying and Dimensional Control, particularly in the UK; with a focus on the larger market opportunities
  • Proven network of contacts within the large Civil Engineering groups
  • Proven track record of success in complex multi-million USD or GBP sales wins
  • Proven track record of developing and delivering successful BD strategies
  • Shall demonstrate the following specific selling skills: ability to cold canvas and sell persuasively; knows how to properly utilise marketing and promotional material; follows up on all sales; must have the ability to learn enough about a prospect’s problems to discuss both a technical/commercial solution and show the client how he can accomplish their needs; is personally presentable at all times in presence of prospects or clients
