We are seeking to appoint an experienced manager to join the Geomatics management team. This post will support the department head in driving the continued growth and success of the Geomatics team, in line with the vision and core values of Wessex Archaeology.

In this role you will drive continuous improvement, ensure the delivery of high-quality service to our clients, see projects to successful completion, advise colleagues, and help to maintain high health and safety standards. You will manage a team within the southern region, providing support and training, and helping them to advance their careers within the structure of our department Career Development Framework.

As a Geomatics Manager, your role will involve all aspects of managing, planning and advising on different types of archaeological surveys, including topographic, walkover, photogrammetry, UAV, laser scanning, and remote sensing surveys. Whilst an archaeological background would be of benefit in this role, the technical understanding of some or all these techniques is considered of primary importance. You will also play a key role in the Company’s management of utility risk, through our pre-excavation procedures.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong technical and practical understanding of a variety of survey techniques and their application;
  • Have experience of risk management, evidenced by an IOSH Managing Safely qualification;
  • Understand the risk posed by utilities and have experience of using utility plans to mitigate this risk;
  • Have a track record of successful management and tendering of geomatics projects;
  • Have people management experience with excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Have experience of working with clients, contractors and suppliers to deliver projects;
  • Be an ambitious individual with the aptitude and aspiration to help develop the department;
  • Be educated to at least degree level in an appropriate subject, or to hold demonstrable experience to an equivalent level;
  • Have a full, clean driving licence.
