The I&M team specialise in measuring and forecasting dynamic behaviour and health of civil infrastructure using established and innovative technologies. With clients, we develop and implement instrumentation and monitoring (I&M) systems to baseline performance, detect behaviour and mitigate risk of failure.

As I&M manager you should have the ability to plan and execute monitoring projects and manage timescales. You will be required to efficiently organise and maintain field survey teams and equipment to complete project tasks. An I&M manager must be able to work methodically on their own initiative, problem solve and liaise with clients when necessary. You should have the ability to communicate with clients and colleagues in a professional manner and brief other members of the team. You need to be prepared to work in high-pressure environments, maintaining composure in order to deliver to deadlines. Flexibility in working hours, the willingness to travel and to work outside in adverse weather conditions are all essential requirements of this role.


  • A relevant technical degree in surveying or a related discipline, with experience in a similar role, however, candidates with suitable skills and proven experience will be considered.
  • Over five years’ experience in Land surveying experience in various sectors of the construction industry
  • Proficient in the use of Trimble / Leica Total stations & GNSS
  • Proficient in the use N4ce, AutoCAD, Cyclone, Trimble Business Centre and Starnet (Desirable)
  • Excellent numeracy with the ability to make mathematical calculations and to understand and interpret data
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact and communicate at all levels
  • Proficient IT skills using Microsoft office
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills
  • Commitment to working safely with good health and safety awareness
  • The ability to provide training and support to junior team members
  • The desire to develop within a team-orientated environment
  • Full UK Driving Licence


  • Ensure the installation of the monitoring system is carried out in accordance with designers brief and any supplied specifications
  • Assist in the production of the Clients Monitoring Plans, required for design or construction of each asset.
  • Checks and makes sure that quality assurance processes for commissioning and testing are followed and that the relative monitoring-related documentation/records are produced to an acceptable standard
  • Provides adequate supervision and support of the instrument installation, maintenance and decommissioning operations.
  • Develops suitable programme and procedures for installation, operation, maintenance and removal of equipment and instrumentation. Ensures that monitoring is carried out at the frequency specified in the various monitoring plans.
  • Performs checks to ensure the processing of data is correctly setup and converts the raw readings into the appropriate engineering unit specified in the monitoring plan
  • Provides access and copies of the processed monitoring data as required by the Project Manager within the agreed period
  • Data visualisation, analysis and interpretation of data in accordance with the scope and technical standards and/or statutory requirements
  • Performs checks to ensure the processing of data is correctly setup and converts the raw readings into the appropriate engineering unit specified in the monitoring plan
  • Developing I&M specifications and regimes

Salary: £30,000 – £40,000 dependent on experience plus approximately £4,000 in overtime
