Role overview

Freedom’s Survey department have an exciting opportunity for a Survey Manager to lead our topographical and underground utility survey teams. The role will be based at our Birmingham office.

The main purpose of the role is to provide leadership and technical support to the team as well as management of larger projects.


  • Identifying operational resource requirements;
  • Engaging with existing and potential clients regarding future survey works and preparing quotations in accordance with project requirements and specifications;
  • Preparation of pre-works documentation such as risk assessments, method statements and site work packs;
  • Ensuring SHEQ policies are followed and identify any failures;
  • Providing survey training as required;
  • Operational responsibility for day to day management of all related projects, including planning, resource, quality compliance and final output delivery;
  • Conducting site audits and staff appraisals;
  • Attending client meetings.


  • Proficient in using various GPS, Total Stations and Levelling equipment (Leica) and/or GPR and EML equipment;
  • Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and transformation software (n4ce, LSS, SCC etc);
  • Substantial experience in general surveying practices for both Topographic Surveys and Underground Utility Surveys;
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office, etc.);
  • A recognised qualification in a related discipline, such as Topographical or Utility Surveying;
  • A full driving license;
  • SMSTS/IOSH or other safety related qualification. (Desirable)
