cbec eco-engineering UK Ltd is a growing environmental consultancy specialising in water resources and environmental management. Eco-engineering concerns the combination of sustainable ecological best practice with innovative methods of environmental engineering. Our key focus areas are river and floodplain restoration, natural flood management, fisheries and barrier management and hydropower support. Working on projects throughout the UK, the company currently has 19  staff based in its offices in Inverness, Stirling and London.

TOPOGRAPHIC/ BATHYMETRIC SURVEYOR

cbec is looking to recruit a topographic surveyor to join our technical team. The primary role will involve the collection of topographic and bathymetric field data for the purposes of sustainable river and floodplain restoration design and flood risk management. This will include surveying a diverse range of riverine environments, as well as other watercourses/ bodies of water (e.g. harbours, lochs, ponds, wetlands and near-shore coastal zones) and associated structures (e.g. bridges, weirs). We operate a range of equipment based on the requirements of each individual survey. The position will involve a combination of on-site data collection and office-based processing and analysis. The successful candidate will preferably be based in Scotland, ideally in the Central Belt, working out of our office in Stirling.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading topographic and bathymetric surveys and supporting hydrological or other physical river assessments
  • Processing collected data and generating required outputs
  • Manipulating and analysing data using AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS and Excel
  • Provision of technical input to project reports and proposals
  • Communicating regularly with project managers and other technical team members
  • Adhering to all HSE requirements (e.g. site inductions)

Essential Criteria:

  • A knowledge of topographic and/ or bathymetric surveying and the use of field equipment (e.g. RTK-GPS, Total Station)
  • Experience in the use of associated data processing software ( (e.g. AutoCAD, ArcGIS)
  • Educated to at least degree level in a relevant subject,
  • A willingness to travel within the UK and to work outside in adverse weather conditions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite
  • Good communication skills (e.g. report writing)
  • Ability to use initiative and best-judgement to resolve problems
  • Driving licence

 Desirable Criteria:

  • Surveying in, or understanding of, river environments
  • Undertaking topographic surveys of water-related structures (e.g. bridges/ sluices/ weirs)
  • Experience of training others in the use of survey equipment
  • Experience of boat piloting in river environments
