The Secretariat
GSA has a dedicated Secretariat to look after the day to day running of the association which has seen substantial and sustained growth over recent years.
Rachel Tyrrell
FCInstCES
CEO
Rachel has worked for GSA since 1998 and has overseen the tremendous growth of the association in that time. She is responsible for the management of a dedicated team, which is based remotely and in Worcester, and the operational oversight of the whole organisation.
Rachel works closely with Council to ensure that the three vision statements are driving everything GSA does. She also represents the association when meeting with key stakeholders in the surveying profession and Chaired the Survey Liaison Group (SLG) from 2023-2025.
Donna White-Bower
Office Manager
Donna is a very experienced senior administrator, having joined the team in January 2025 and is based at The Survey School in Worcester.
With a high level of organisational skill and a track record of implementing improvement in efficiency across the board, Donna oversees the combined processes of both GSA and TSS.
Laura Lynn
Accounts Manager
Laura is a qualified accountant, having gained AAT Level 4 Diploma in Accounting. She has extensive experience of working in both private and practice, mostly in a small business environment, and joined the GSA team in October 2015.
Laura has brought an array of new skills and talent to the Secretariat, ensuring the Association continues to be as efficient and as organised as possible particularly with regard to the financial aspect. She enjoys the unique challenges and opportunities that running a successful trade association brings.
Harry Tyrrell
Office Assistant
Harry Tyrrell joined the team in 2021 and his strong IT and data analysis skills are being put to good use as part of the Secretariat.
Harry is the first point of contact for members for uploading job adverts, updating their profiles on the website and assists the team with data analysis, keeping GSA files in good order and therefore ensuring the smooth running of the operational side of GSA.
Jules Tyrrell
Office Assistant
Joining the team post-A Levels in the summer of 2023, Jules adds resource to the ever-growing administration needs of a busy association.
It will be Jules who books you on a Conference, or chases you for CCD, Annual Returns and endeavours to answer any and all queries from members and non-members alike.
Council members
GSA is governed by an elected Council comprising twelve member companies. The Council is subdivided into three core committees: Public Relations (PR), Membership & Internal Affairs (MIA) & Technical. There are subgroups that focus on Finance and The Survey School.

After University I decided to retrain as a Geomatics Surveyor and went on to complete the GSA Surveying Course in 2006. Specialising in measured building surveys and 3D models, I founded Spatial Dimensions in 2012.
I have since won several awards and done a great deal to promote surveying as a desirable profession and encourage more women to join.
I am now privileged to be involved with GSA as President. I am a great believer in the benefits of sharing knowledge and upholding standards and this forms part of GSA’s role as a trade association in the ever changing world of Geomatics. I hope to contribute and have a positive impact with this, helping GSA, other companies and individuals to attain standards set and mark the way for whatever the future technology holds for us.

I began surveying in 1995 and established Encompass in 2005. I have lectured at Chichester University and I am incredibly passionate about our profession.
I want everyone in the profession to be proud of what they do and I want everyone else to know what we do and why we do it and why they should use a GSA member.

I am serving on Council to continue advocating for a strong, credible, and future-proof geospatial profession. Through my current work on GSA Council and the national campaign Task Force / PR Committee, I actively promote professional standards, best practice, and clearer understanding of the value of geospatial surveying.
Beyond GSA, I contribute to the profession through regular thought leadership via The Geospatial Edge, industry magazine articles, and speaking at conferences/technical events. I challenge the dilution of professional expertise by unchecked automation while supporting education, apprenticeships, and skills development.
My focus is collaboration, credibility, and ensuring GSA builds upon its confident, authoritative voice for surveyors.

I have 21 years’ experience in the profession and benefited as a young surveyor from the Survey School. Having worked across most areas of our profession gaining experience and knowledge along the way, I believe I have a well-rounded and grounded understanding of the issues we face.
As a GSA Council member, I will continue to help drive the awareness of our profession within young people, continuing to actively lead engagement with schools, colleges, Scouts, and Guides. I am committed to further development of standards of training and support for member businesses whilst also increasing awareness within our client industries.

Oliver, Managing Director of Atlantic Geomatics, brings a fresh and different perspective to the Geospatial Survey Association Council. With a degree in Marketing and a background in Business Development and Sales, Oliver is passionate about promoting the influence the member companies of GSA have on the Built Environment.
Oliver previously chaired the PR Committee and served as Vice President. He is driven to promote best practice and share with users of Spatial Data the benefits of using GSA member companies.

I graduated in Archaeology from Durham University in 1998 and spent some time researching how soil geochemistry affects buried objects before starting a career in field archaeology, quickly finding an aptitude for land survey and geophysics.
I joined Met in 2006 as a Project Surveyor and was made Director in 2012 after developing their underground utility mapping and geophysics department. My career path through research, cultural heritage and the survey industry has had at its core a love of geoscience. I am passionate about education and improving standards in our industry.
I believe it is vital to disseminate knowledge and communicate a better understanding of the technology at our disposal, and how it can be used to provide more effective solutions to the problems we face in our environment. Contributing to GSA’s Technical Committee and the work it produces is one way I can help achieve this.

I work for multi-disciplined survey company LandScope Engineering that focuses on above ground, below ground and underwater mapping.
My educational background was in geology/geophysics before my professional career (last 16 years) focussed on traditional survey and underground mapping. My current role focuses on a mix of commercial / sales, business development and technical expertise. Passionate about driving innovation and hopeful that my ability to articulate complex technical solutions to all sectors can be of benefit to the GSA community.
I am an active member of the wider geospatial community (CICES, EuroGPR, RICS etc) and enjoy presenting and meeting people at events such as Geobusiness.

I have over 23 years geomatics experience, initially as a field surveyor, but latterly planning the strategy and growth of Formby Surveys as Managing Director since 2007. Whilst Formby Surveys is a relatively new GSA member company, my involvement with GSA covers most of those 23 years and I have been a contributor to the Survey School since 2004. I am also a serving member of the NW&NW CICES Regional Committee.
My interest in joining the GSA council is to inject modern, open-minded ideas into the organisation and membership, and drive high survey industry standards, share knowledge and improve the overall survey industry image.

My association with the geospatial profession began in January 2007 when our company Storm Geomatics was born. Being married to a professional land surveyor and one with a passion for reducing flooding I was well versed in the high standards and diverse skills of the profession.
I obtained a Business Studies Degree too many years ago to remember and now have a strong background in business development across varied industries. Creating a strong and robust knowledge of how to ensure a business succeeds is something I can now offer GSA.
Helping to strategically grow our company and time spent alongside geospatial experts has led me to my own passion for securing the future of this vital profession. Without land surveyors our world will not progress and be sustainable both in the natural and built environment.
Becoming a council member for GSA gives me the opportunity to work alongside other council members to uphold the three foundations on which GSA has committed to.

Useful to know
GSA is also involved in lobbying Government departments when appropriate and other agencies such as the Environment Agency regarding policies likely to affect or involve the survey profession.
GSA meets regularly with RICS and CICES on a range of issues and has established a group called the SLG, or Survey Liaison Group. This body convenes at regular intervals to examine matters of mutual interest and to ensure that there is little or no duplication of effort by the three bodies. Representatives from the Geospatial Commission also regularly join SLG meetings.
