TSA AGM 2023: Setting up goals for the year ahead

Published: 30 Mar 2023

Yesterday saw TSA’s AGM take place at Liverpool FC’s spectacular Anfield stadium.

The event was the best attended AGM in TSA’s history, with members travelling from all over the UK to the hallowed home of The Reds.

New Vice-President for TSA

The AGM included the announcement that Council member Claire Fenwick, Managing Director at Spatial Dimensions, has been elected as our new Vice-President. Sam Roberts of Met Geo Environmental was the recipient of the 2023 President’s Award, for his tireless work, over many years, on the creation of the PUMA Scheme.

Following the formal part of the proceedings, we heard from our keynote speaker, Alison Watson MBE, CEO of Class of Your Own, fearlessly challenging us all to be part of the solution and not the problem when it comes to the ever-pressing issues of education and skills. Stephen Hancock, Lead Research Scientist, Ordnance Survey, then shared some entertaining and startling insights into the challenges presented by GNSS jamming.

Following lunch, everyone, football fan or not, was invited to enjoy a guided tour of the famous stadium. To round off the day, Sam Roberts, Met Geo Environmental Ltd, launched PUMA, TSA’s new PAS128 Accreditation Scheme for Utility Surveying Companies. TSA members can now apply for accreditation here https://www.tsa-uk.org.uk/pas128-accreditation/.

Bringing land surveying to the fore in education

TSA President Nick Hampson, from Malcolm Hughes Land Surveyors, said,

“We had an excellent, highly enjoyable day at Anfield, home to the best football team in the world. There were plenty of opportunities throughout the day to network and catch up with professional peers. As well as beginning to plan our next major event, our annual conference in November, we are working hard to make progress with both bringing land surveying to the fore in education and also making sure there is an educational pathway for young people to follow.”

Rachel Tyrrell, Secretary General, commented,

“This was my 25th AGM and, so far, it was the best we have ever held in terms of quality of speakers, venue, engagement and feedback from members.  We are determined to top it next time!”
