Two new Council members for The Survey Association

Published: 25 Apr 2024

The Survey Association (TSA) is governed by an elected Council, subdivided into three committees: Public Relations, Membership & Internal Affairs and Technical. Following a close ballot, this year has seen the election of two new Council members, Nick Blakeway, Senior Associate Director at Jacobs, and Mark White, Geoscience Manager at LandScope Engineering. Nick has been appointed to the Membership & Internal Affairs Committee, while Mark has joined the Public Relations Committee.

Nick has been involved in the survey profession for over 33 years and has played an active role in TSA for many years. After completing his HND in Civil Engineering, he became enthused about land surveying and all its variety while being employed by a surveying company for a temporary job one summer. Since working at Jacobs he has studied for a part-time Masters in Satellite Positioning Technology. He now manages the Jacobs UK Surveying & Reality Capture Business and enjoys working across the UK and Europe for multiple clients.

Nick was keen to stand for Council to give something back to our profession, as he feels he has benefited so much from his membership.

Mark is part of the senior management team at LandScope Engineering, which provides above ground, underground and underwater surveys. He has a passion for combining high accuracy survey sensors with geophysical devices, which has led to his development of several mobile data collection vehicles, software platforms and data collection apps.

Mark is a keen advocate of TSA, believing it to play a central role in representing and promoting best practice. He stood for Council as he is keen to get involved and help contribute to solutions to our profession’s challenges, particularly around the skills gap and low fees.

Commenting on the election results, Rachel Tyrrell, TSA CEO, said,

“We are delighted TSA can benefit from Mark and Nick’s wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience Their appointments have strengthened the Council still further and I can’t wait to see where their added input will take us over the next few months and years.”

Elections only come around once a year but we are always keen to hear from people who would like to contribute and get involved in the organisation and governance of Council. Please contact us at office@tsa-uk.org.uk
